Organizations resist learning that threatens existing competence.

Edgar H. ScheinOrganizational Culture and Leadership, 1985

The quote doesn’t need embellishment. In a data pipeline change where failures can be silent, the word organizations is enough to tell you what will repeat. Your job is to make the repetition safe.

In a data pipeline change where failures can be silent, good engineers will do what the system rewards. You see it in lessons that feel satisfying and fail again the next quarter, and you can’t fix it with reminders. If the exception path is informal, it becomes politics; write the signal that makes an exception legitimate and who can approve it.

Edgar H. Schein is a reminder to keep it concrete. Name the assumption and the observable signal that would invalidate it. Make it specific enough that a peer can disagree.
