In a triage meeting where every option has a cost, the lack of a clear call turns every update into negotiation. The work slows down while the stress increases.

Under pressure, people default to the simplest story. If you do not define the boundary, the simplest story will define it for you. Make the boundary explicit enough that a peer could disagree with it; if no one can disagree, no one can defend it under pressure. A standard you cannot apply in one pass is not a standard; it is a preference disguised as governance.

Write the decision line: what happens next, what will not happen, and the signal that reopens the call. That is how you turn stress into clarity instead of theater. Keep it short enough to remember under stress.
